He started work as a therapist under his masters in social work degree. He then went on to further train in psychotherapy at the Los Angeles Psychoanalytic Institute completing a 3 year program. Afterward, he attended the Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis where he completed a 4 year training program with a doctoral degree in psychoanalysis. In more recent years he has received extensive training in Mentalization Based Treatment.

Dr. Green has been on the faculty and/or supervised the training of other psychotherapists at UCLA, USC,  and the Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis. lecturing at several counseling centers in Los Angeles.

He has served on the Board of Directors of the Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis and the International Forum for Psychoanalytic Education. He was President of IFPE from 2019-2024. 

He has presented and taught on the psychotherapeutic process in Boston, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale, Los Angeles, Portland, and Seattle.

He has published articles in a number of professional journals including the Clinical Social Work Journal and the online journal Other/Wise.
